History
When MCU-FDT Medical Foundation Hospital came into existence in 1974, the Clinical Laboratory followed its growth from a simple laboratory unit to a sophisticated modern laboratory facility manned by physicians specialized in Clinical and Anatomic Pathology and skilled medical technologists providing quality results on different diagnostic laboratory and histopathology tests.
It started in 1975 when Dr. Antonia G. Cruz-Basa, a fellow in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, American Board of Pathology and Philippine Board of Pathology was appointed Chief of the Clinical Laboratory Department. For 36 long fruitful years (1975-2012), Dr. Basa worked hard in improving the department’s facilities, upgrading its services using modern technology. She was instrumental in the formation of the first Committee of Blood Transfusion and to head in this among other committees.
In 2012, she was succeeded by Dr. Estela Marie C. Tanchoco, a fellow in Clinical Pathology and silver medalist of Ateneo Graduate School of Business Masters in Business Administration, Regis Program. Since her appointment, the department continuously enhances its services keeping pace with growth. Dr. Monica Yu-Tolentino was also appointed as the Head of the Anatomic Pathology, a section of the Clinical Laboratory, a fellow in Anatomic Pathology Philippine Society of Pathologists.
The MCU-FDTMF Hospital Clinical Laboratory also has an exceptional combined residency training program in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with a 100% specialty board passing rate.
